I raced down the elevator (see? even my language turned American – that’s how excited I was!) and skidded excitedly into the hotel lobby. The lobby itself was hugely grand. It had a massive aquarium right in the middle and it was dripping with gold. It also had a roof-top bar and its own Italian restaurant attached to it. It also had a concierge and bell people to take up your luggage. I loved it!

‘Lola, Lola, this is fan-bloody-tastic! Have you seen the rooms? It’s amazing! A huge bed and a huge plasma screen!’

Lola looked at me with distain. ‘We are not staying in those rooms. I told them specifically that we are to be on the ground floor, not the twelfth’.

‘Oh Lola!’ I cried in disappointment. ‘They’re brilliant rooms – you won’t even know that you’re up that high! Come on, please?’ I wheedled. ‘I’ll get down on my knees right now and beg…’

‘Oh ok,’ Lola said, throwing her hands in the air in defeat. ‘Fine, fine, fine. But if there’s a fire and we die, it’ll be your fault’. She swept majestically into the elevator, gesturing for the bell-boy to follow. I clapped my hands in glee – this was going to be great!
